Poem inspired by Psalms 1
by Mrs. G.
Monday morning challenges
Discerning which is right
Am I hearing My Lord’s call?
Or should I take to flight?
One voice telling me
To worry and to dread
Another telling me that
it’s all just in my head
Both seem to have merit
Both could so be true
Is my lord just warning me
"Be careful what you do."
Or is the devil toying
Playing with my mind
Telling me some crazy lies
So I’ll leave what’s right behind
Constantly I’m spinning
Grasping out for straws
Anything to give me peace
To counter all my flaws
When I pray for discretion
And signs point to the truth
Things that I don’t want to fix
are shown to me with proof
I’m sorry for my faithlessness
My fears I’ll be alone
Worrying “Does God love me?
Will Heaven be my home?”
So dear Lord my prayer, I guess
Is that you will help me
embrace the good, deal with the bad
Set my spirit free
Trusting in your promises
It will turn out for the best
Broken heart or smiling eyes
My soul will be at rest
Secure tight in your love for me
Love only you can give
No matter what evil threatens
In you oh Lord, I live.
Psalms 1 - RSV
1 Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree
planted by streams of water,
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
